Contrail at InnoTrans 2024

InnoTrans 2024 took place in Berlin from September 24-27, making it one of the most important events dedicated to innovative rail transport solutions, bringing together nearly 3,000 exhibitors from 59 countries and attracting 170,000 visitors. With a focus on smart mobility and sustainable solutions, the fair was a major opportunity for Contrail to showcase its technologies and forge new partnerships.

Contrail’s Mobile Flash Butt Welding Machine (FBW): A Game-Changer for Rail Track Maintenance

Contrail showcased at the event an efficient solution for rail track welding, the Flash Butt Welding Machine (FBW), designed specifically for SMRT in Singapore. It is an efficient welding solution, tailored to the stringent safety requirements and constraints. 

The welding machine’s productivity in stationary mode is up to 12 welds per hour. The limitation is the time needed for the rail preparation, while the welding cycle itself only takes 2 minutes. In tunnels, with proper organization, 6-8 welds per hour can be achieved, which is significantly superior to the current process where aluminothermic welding is used.

The Strategic Partnership with SMRT Trains in Singapore

The partnership with SMRT marks an important milestone as the company becomes the first public transport operator in Singapore to adopt FBW technology to modernize and streamline railway maintenance and repair processes. With this solution, SMRT can replace up to 72 meters of track in a single night, which is essential for an infrastructure where maintenance intervals are limited to just three hours.
